5 Important Rules in Website Design

When it comes to your website, extra attention should be paid to every minute detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are seven important rules of thumb to observe to make sure your website performs well.

1) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like "welcome" or "click here to enter". In fact, they are just that -- pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the "back" button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page. Of course, you can still use a 'Pop up' Subscriber Data Box to collect subscriber data for your List, although the customer should still be able to access the main Homepage to your site, underneath the 'Opt-in' box.

2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements

Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, provide more valuable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to buy instead of being pushed to buy.

3) Have a simple and clear navigation

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered drop down menus. If your visitors don't know how to navigate, they will leave your site.

4) Have a clear indication of where the user is

When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don't confuse your visitors because confusion means "abandon ship"!

5) Avoid using audio on your site

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it -- volume or muting controls would work fine.

Rebates – Reward or Rip Off?

Rebates have become increasingly popular in the last few years on a lot of items and certainly on electronic items and computers. Rebates of $20, $50 or $100 are not uncommon.

I’ve even seen items advertised as “free after rebate”. Do these rebates come under the heading of “too good to be true”? Some of them do and there are “catches” to watch out for but if you are careful, rebates can help you get some really good deals.

The way a rebate works is that you pay the listed price for an item then mail in a form and the bar code to the manufacturer and they send you a refund thus reducing the price of what you paid for the item except with a time delay of several weeks.


Rule #1. Rebates from reputable companies are usually just fine.

You can be pretty sure you will get the promised rebate from Best Buy, Amazon or Dell but you should probably not count on getting one from a company you’ve never heard of. If you really want the product and are OK with paying the price listed then buy it but don’t count on actually getting the refund.


Rule #2. Check rebate expiration dates.

Many times products will stay on the shelf of a retailer after the date for sending in the rebate offer has expired so check that date carefully.


Rule #3. Be sure you have all the forms required to file for the rebate before you leave the store.

Rebates will almost always require a form to be filled out, a receipt for the purchase and a bar code.

Rule #4. Back up your rebate claim.

Make copies of everything you send in to get your rebate including the bar code. Stuff gets lost in the mail all the time and if the rebate is for $50 it’s worth the trouble to back up your claim.

Avoiding Impulse Spending

Answer these questions truthfully:


1.) Does your spouse or partner complain that you spend too much money?

2.) Are you surprised each month when your credit card bill arrives at how much more you charged than you thought you had?

3.) Do you have more shoes and clothes in your closet than you could ever possibly wear?

4.) Do you own every new gadget before it has time to collect dust on a retailer’s shelf?

5.) Do you buy things you didn’t know you wanted until you saw them on display in a store?


If you answered “yes” to any two of the above questions, you are an impulse spender and indulge yourself in retail therapy.

This is not a good thing. It will prevent you from saving for the important things like a house, a new car, a vacation or retirement. You must set some financial goals and resist spending money on items that really don’t matter in the long run.

Impulse spending will not only put a strain on your finances but your relationships, as well. To overcome the problem, the first thing to do is learn to separate your needs from your wants.

Advertisers blitz us hawking their products at us 24/7. The trick is to give yourself a cooling-off period before you buy anything that you have not planned for.

When you go shopping, make a list and take only enough cash to pay for what you have planned to buy. Leave your credit cards at home.

If you see something you think you really need, give yourself two weeks to decide if it is really something you need or something you can easily do without. By following this simple solution, you will mend your financial fences and your relationships.

• The Software Library was delayed for a short while. I decided to move it to its own stand alone Server. It will be able to deal with more traffic, as the Library fills and gets used more. Therefore, there will be no disruptions changing it at a later date.
  

• New Mp3 Players will be arriving in time for the Christmas Shopping Rush. These are Great players at a Fantastic Price, and not your usual run of the mill designs. The entire MP3 and MP4 Areas will be revamped. Thanks to a drop in Freight, due to the addition of Air Freight from one of our suppliers, all prices will be dropping. The latest stock to arrive will be even more fairly priced, as they were sourced from another supplier.

Most of you will be aware that we currently host Smartsavershop.com here too, although Smartsavershop.com is redirected from ecreations. This is why, in their infinite bid for cruelty towards many Web Masters, our ranking dropped from a 4 to a 1, thanks to a Google reshuffle, which was so severe that it put many AdSense Sites out of business.

Mmm...the powers to be Google...you never know who may be next!

Hold on though...

Here's the ultimate proof that you don't need a great Google ranking to get a great position, if you really know S.E.O (Search Engine Optimisation).

Type in "ecreations" and you'll find that we're ranked 29th out of 37,600 sites, so the re-direction is assisting our host site, not wrecking it. Here's another tip...rankings can change soooo fast. I started this blog 3 hours ago but had to leave it to complete something else. In those 3 hours we rose to 28th place out of 37,500 sites. The previous day we were ranked at 3oth place. Dear Friends,

A Blog today, in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the 911 disaster. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to them, and of course to their families and friends. My apologies for being a day or two late.

We can remember how they touched the lives of many, whilst here on Earth, and pay due diligence to putting new measures in place, to make sure a repeat of this event can not ever happen again.

There is also something else we should consider. You see...I don't believe we should just put this down to Global Terrorism. To do that would be too simple, given the mounting evidence, which backs the theories of many conspiracy writers and investigators. We owe the truth, not just to those who died, but also to ourselves. I can not make up your mind for you on such matters. However, take a look again at a past Blog I posted and leave me your thoughts and opinions. Those who saw the Documentary would have to agree that there is more to this event than meets the eye. You decide for yourself!

Hi, hope you all had a great day, or are having a great day.

We need to ask ourselves now and again...what is money really in relation to happiness? I mean, the person living on the street may be happier than most of us...right?

I'm not advocating that living on the street is the bees knees. Certainly there are no doubt millions around the world in that position, just looking for a way out...a better way!

But let's face facts. There are also millions of people, in all parts of the world, who are either middle class or even affluent, and are still unhappy. My point is this. We need to learn how to be happy without Financial Freedom, before we can even begin to be happy with it. If we can't rise and greet each new day, feeling blessed, and be happy for what we do have...how do we expect to ever be able to successfully manage more?

It's true that in this modern technical era, there are a growing number of Individuals who are never happy with what they have, even when they attain more! We need to Ground ourselves and focus on reality. We aren't what we own. We are what we do and the way we think.

This may sound strange, coming from a guy who promotes a Shopping Site, and that brings me to my point. You see...you need to know why I started Smartsaversshop.com in the first place. I believe that Consumerism has gone rapant in recent years, and that this is putting a strain on our budgets. I'm as much as a Gadget Freak as any of you and there's nothing wrong with having some fun with life, if you are blessed enough to do so. However, I also believe that Capital Greed, or more to the point Corporate Greed is wrong.

It's fine to promote Goods and Services to the World's populace and profit. After all, that's why we're in business right? Yet why can't goods and services cater more to the masses, and not just to those in the middle to higher class income brackets. Shouldn't everyone be able to afford to spend their money on something that makes them happy?

I would encourage everyone to donate at least 10% of their Earnings, as I do, to some sort of Worthwhile Charity. This can bring Great Rewards and Blessings into your Personal Life, and make some less fortunate Individual Happier than you could ever imagine. Try it and see for yourself. Even if it puts a strain on your budget. You'll be surprised to see how it has a 'Law of Giving - Return Effect' at some point further on down the track...and the joy it brings to the Other Person is of course the Main Reward!

So...that said. I went about creating a Web Site that can do just that.

The First Objective was to bring the average consumer closer to what they can afford to spend.
The Second Objective was to teach consumers how they can use the money they've saved to increase the 'Prosperity' or 'Blessing Flow' of others, whilst also increasing their own Wealth in the process. Thus, providing a better life for themselves when they retire and helping someone else along the way.
